Andrew Leddington of the Lazers
This season we decided to go a different route with or player of the year award. Rather than just looking at the skill and abilities on the ice we looked a little deeper. After all to truly be an all-star it isn't all about points.
This year we wanted to recognize the team in the league that has embraced what the WHCL is trying to achieve. The WHCL has made a commitment to provide adult hockey players the ability to play hockey in a competitive, yet safe, and enjoyable environment at a reasonable time. This year the Lazers from the Newcastle division have shown they are exactly that team. And in a poll for WHCL Officials, WinSport Arena staff, and League administration Andrew Leddington was voted as our number 1 team GM.
Playing hard every night, the Lazers have amassed a record of 15-11-1 (there was still 1 game to go at the time of this article). And throughout those games there were many nights that Mr. Leddington had led by example, and really ensured his players as well as his opponents were all there with the common goal of competitive hockey, in a safe environment.
Having been in attendance when Mr. Leddington attended to a fallen player from the Wanderers it was clear to see why our officials chose him as the recipient of this award.
For all the work Mr. Leddington has done for his team as well as the WHCL he was able to take home this seasons Award, as well as a Team Canada jersey, and a Molson Coors Beer fridge.
