7 game seeding round complete

2013-10-24

The Black Swans look to skate into the Rickards Red Divison.

More details on the seeding round completion

Well we’ve reached the conclusion of our 7 game seeding round, and as many of you have seen over the past couple of days there have been a lot of games changes; 294 to be exact.  What this means for all of you is that the standings page will look a lot different, and you will likely see a few new faces on the opposite side of the ice this season.

We were able to move a total of 14 teams so far, and here are the moves that took place:

Rickards Red
The Black Swans have moved into the division on the strength of their record as well as their goals for/against ratio.  With 3 teams tied for first place it was the goals/against ratio that set the Black Swans apart from  both the Thirsty Penguins and the Sumo’s.
Miller Genuine Draft
The MGD division seen teams moved in and out of the division.  H & B was the first to move, coming down from the Rickards Red division.  Two teams were able to move up from the Heineken division, in the Apes as well as the Booze Blues.
Heineken
Replacing the Apes and Booze Blues were the Bottle Rockets and Beavers.  After a tough seven games both teams are looking to bounce back with strong games against their new opponents.  The Generals also moved into the Heineken division and are looking forward to some stiffer competition.
Pilsner
The Pilsner division would like to welcome the Rams, as well as the only team in the seeding round to have a perfect 7 – 0 record; the Thunder.  The Thunder have been asking for a move and it will be great to see how they do in their new division.
Keystone
Moving down in to the Keystone division is Blue Steel.  A team that has worked hard, but unfortunately seen 4 divisions since the Summer 2013 season.  Let’s hope this is the best fit for them.  The Roke Rockets have also moved back into the division they started in a year ago.
Corona
Having been a WHCL team since the inception of the league the Dragons are looking to take their experience into a division filled with last years’ rivals, and a few new opponents that will showcase the teams talent.
Molson 67A/67B
The last move in the standings changes the schedule a little, but not really the opponents.   As the 67A and B division play crossover games through the season the Lucky Pucks and Snowplows will still get to see all the same opponents, it’s just a change in where the points get allocated.

There are likely to still be a few moves in the future, but as of right now we don’t have enough data to determine which moves need to take place (there are currently 5 teams on the radar for this).  A couple of teams have expressed concern about being a team that moved, and we will do our best to make sure every division is as competitive as possible, even if that means moving a team a second time.  We just need to know which teams NEED to be moved as opposed to teams moving and causing unbalanced games in a new division.

Standings
In looking at the standing you will see a couple new columns, FW and FL – these are Forfeit Win and Forfeit Loss columns.  Teams that have FW numbers will receive 2 points, as well as credit for every player on the roster towards playoff qualifications.  Players with FL will receive 0 points and no concessions towards playoff qualifications.  At 3 FL’s the team will not be permitted to  participate in the WHCL going forward.
You will also notice that teams have very different number of games played.  This is because any game played against a team not currently in your division will not count towards your team overall standings.  Points, PIM’s and goaltender stats will still count, but there will be no weight in overall standings for divisional placement.
