WHCL Summer 2013 Finals are set

2013-08-23

Fighter Pilot Rick Polden chased a championship but came up short

August 25th will mark the 4th time the WHCL Championship will be handed out to our division winners. Here is a breakdown of how everyone got there.

Molson Canadian Division
THE HEROES will look to defend their title against the newcomer in the Molson Division.  HATRICK SWAYZE was able to make it into the top division final after a 5  game start in the league’s second division.
Coors Light Division
With both teams finishing the round robin with matching 2 -1 records we look to the regular season standing s to see the DUCKS are the clear favorite in this game.  The SPARTANS are looking to repeat as div 2 champions once again after a 5 game stint in div 1.
(please note the original version of this email mistakenly showed the CLUSTERPUCKS as making the finals. The SPARTANS won the tie breaker due to head to head record in the round robin)
Rickards Red Division
With another repeat finalist the Rickards Red division will see the BOTTLE ROCKETS try adding their name on the trophy again, at the expense of  the APES.  With a 1 – 1 record  and scores of 10 – 3 and 6 – 1 in the regular season series, this game is a wildcard, and could be a high scoring event.
Miller Genuine Draft Division
The PENGUIDOS showed everyone in the round robin that they clearly deserve to be the favorites.  And after going as far as goals for/goals against ration as the tie breaker we were able to determine that the YARD SALE will be their opponent to start our finals Sunday.
Heineken Division
Winners Win… And that’s exactly what the JIMMERS are thinking going into Sunday.  After winning a division title in the Winter they went 3 – 0 in the round robin to make sure they go back.  The BANDITOS will do everything they can to shut down their opponent, and with a 7 – 2 record as the visiting team this summer they have a shot at it.
Pilsner Division
With the TIMBERWOLVES and the WOLFPACK facing off in this division we will get our chance to truly see who the top dog is.
Keystone Division
2 new teams to the WHCL will both have their chance to go down as Keystone champions.  After spending all season in the Keystone division the JOKERS looked to take top spot with a 9 – 0 – 2 – 1 record, until the LYCANS moved up from the corona division and finished with a solid 6 – 0 – 0 – 1 record.
Corona Division
As close to a perfect season as the WHCL has seen to date could be capped off Sunday night if the WANDERERS can top the SNOWPLOWS.  With the Wanderers only having missed out on 3 points so far this season (1 forfeit and a shoot-out loss) it would appear that they are ready to take home their first title.  If the Snowplows can stand in front of Dave Garcia’s  .904 save % they have a real shot at an upset.

This sets up our 8 finals on Sunday.  Check online  Sunday as we will be live tweeting(@WHCLeague) the games, and posting pics / results throughout the day.
