WinSport Hockey Canada League Summer Season

2011-12-15

Division 5 Warriors vs Huskies

The WHCL has announced their Summer Season which will Start May 1st.

WinSport Summer Hockey

Well it’s December and the snow has finally started coming down.  In Calgary that means two things, 1 – You’ll have to wait for a Chinook to get your winter tires, and 2 – It’s time to start talking about summer hockey.  Many of you have called and asked if we are going to be running a summer season, and I can finally confirm that yes we are going to be running a summer season.  I can also confirm a rumor that is out there that the league is making its first push towards expansion.  We will be running a 60 team league this summer.

What does a 60 team league mean to you?  Well simply put it means that we will have more divisions and the ability to fill in some of the gaps between our current divisions.  Currently we have 40 teams across 5 divisions which has left a couple teams smack in the middle of two divisions without a clear indication of where they need to be. With the ability to add a couple more divisions it will allow us to seed these teams in the right spot.  Going into the summer season we are planning on having eight divisions.  Division 2 – 7 will be open divisions of 8 teams and then we will have 2 divisions of 6.  These 2 final divisions will be a Women’s division as well as a 40+ division (provided we get 6 of each, if not these divisions will be determined by the teams available.

How do you secure your spot in the summer?

To secure your spot this summer I am going to require a $500 non-refundable* deposit ASAP.  League fees again will then be split into two 50% payments.   If your 2011/12 season team has decided not to play summer hockey you can still secure your winter spot by putting a $1000 non-refundable* deposit in for the upcoming 2012/2013 season.

*Deposits are non-refundable unless it is WinSport that has made an error and you are not able to join the season the deposit has been placed for.  If the team decides it no longer wishes to join the WHCL the deposit will be forfeited.
