Week 1 in the WHCL
Week 1 in the WHCL has been a success. There were 36 games played, and 330 goals scored.
Here are some of the highlights of the week:
Waylon Yu of the Calgary Frames put up the only shut-out of the week in a 7 - 0 win over the Chargers in the Coors Banquet division.
We saw 6 shoot-outs in week 1 of the season.
There were 4 additional 1 goal games over the week showing there is some good parity to start the season.
Justin Sokalski of the Bruins had an 8 point night agains Shoguns 2.0 with 4 goals and 4 assists in hte teams 12 - 3 victory.
The Bruins win would stand as the most lop-sided game of the week with a 9 goal differential.
The Molson Canadian division saw the game with the most overall goals this week, a 15-7 victory for the Lions over the Longball Bombers game us 22 goals in 42 minutes of hockey.
The Heineken division saw the most penalized game of the week with 43 minutes in penalties being handed out (23 minutes to the Blue Devils and 20 minutes to the Falcons).
There were 8 teams that made it through week 1 without sending a single player to the penalty box - Mammoths, Apes, Benders, Hatrick Swayze, Moose Knuckles, Warthogs, Silverbacks and Money Shots.
Overall it looks like there is some great parity in the divisions this summer. A couple teams are already looking to move divisions but there isn't enough info to capture the right changes yet.
